Bidding farewell to the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station

On 1 July 2011, another chapter in the Malaysia-Singapore history was closed. The Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was officially closed after 79 years of operation. On the weekend before it closed, we visited the station hoping to capture what we could before it became another well-preserved but non-operational national monument.


The one and only time that I had ever taken a train out from Singapore to Malaysia was about 10 years ago. It was also the first time I had ever taken a train on the Malaysian railway - KTM. The journey was over the night and it felt long as I could not sleep, but we reached Kuala Lumpur bright and early the next morning.

My experience would be extremely insignificant if compared to some of the memories of the people who worked there and taken countless of trains from the railway station. Like the man I captured in my previous post, and all those who had loved and enjoyed a taste of Malaysia in the bustling food area.

  Travels have probably changed for good - our last big trip was in December 2019 and last flight taken was coming back from Penang, Malaysia after the Chinese New Year celebration in February 2020.  Little did we know then that we would be in Singapore for the next 2 years (and hopefully not much longer)! Statues of naked men

{ May 2011 - Florence, Italy } I have seen more statues and painting of naked men and women during the trip to Italy, than I have ever seen, and will probably ever see. You just need to scroll through all the photos I have posted under Italy  to see some of the many that I have seen. And Florence, the birth place of Renaissance, probably has more statues and paintings of naked men and women, not to mention, of Gods, Goddesses and their children, then any other cities in Italy. David If there is one masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture, it has got to be David by Michaelangelo. The 17-feet marble statue of a standing male nude, is definitely an exceptional piece of sculpture. It could probably be due to the position in Galleria dell'Academia that houses the sculpture, or just the tall white polished marble. Central Vietnam with Children

I've always wanted to visit Hoi An - old world charm, yellow dirty walls, travelling in boats and bicycles and foot. Not to mention, it is in Vietnam which has some of the best street foods. Somehow, we never managed to plan a trip there, till now, with 2 children in tow! Was a little reluctant at first - a cultural trip with an erratic almost 2.5-year-old toddler and a 4-month-old baby.
