Of travelling and travel writing

 

A new year is always a time when one reflects and considers what has been achieved the year before and what one aims to achieve the next year. I did a reflection of my year in travel and the places I wish to go this year. So, here's another challenge for myself this year: to increase the number of readers to my blog!

It started off about one and a half year ago as a place for me to jot down my thoughts, especially on my travels. I have started countless journals over the years, and was never organised or disciplined enough to continue. I figured, if I put everything on a website, I would have all of them in the same place. One and a half years and 85 posts later, I wished to put my blog "out there" (so to speak) for all to read and see. With just one problem - I have no idea where to start! Well, I did manage to get into Lonely Planet's Featured Blogger program, so that's a start.

So, when I read about this 1000-1000 Blog Challenge, I decided to put myself up for the challenge. The idea is to build the blog up to 1000 visitors per day and to earn US$1000 per month. I would be happy to increase my readership, and the money would be great to fund my travel! Still not quite sure how I'll achieve that, but let's take it one step at a time, ya?

So, here's to a great year of travel and travel writing!

Where would I go after this pandemic?

  Travels have probably changed for good - our last big trip was in December 2019 and last flight taken was coming back from Penang, Malaysia after the Chinese New Year celebration in February 2020.  Little did we know then that we would be in Singapore for the next 2 years (and hopefully not much longer)! Statues of naked men

{ May 2011 - Florence, Italy } I have seen more statues and painting of naked men and women during the trip to Italy, than I have ever seen, and will probably ever see. You just need to scroll through all the photos I have posted under Italy  to see some of the many that I have seen. And Florence, the birth place of Renaissance, probably has more statues and paintings of naked men and women, not to mention, of Gods, Goddesses and their children, then any other cities in Italy. David If there is one masterpiece of Renaissance sculpture, it has got to be David by Michaelangelo. The 17-feet marble statue of a standing male nude, is definitely an exceptional piece of sculpture. It could probably be due to the position in Galleria dell'Academia that houses the sculpture, or just the tall white polished marble. Central Vietnam with Children

I've always wanted to visit Hoi An - old world charm, yellow dirty walls, travelling in boats and bicycles and foot. Not to mention, it is in Vietnam which has some of the best street foods. Somehow, we never managed to plan a trip there, till now, with 2 children in tow! Was a little reluctant at first - a cultural trip with an erratic almost 2.5-year-old toddler and a 4-month-old baby. In the end, after considering various other countries, we decided to go, but spend a longer time there and take it slow with lots of breaks and naps.
